J.G. Coram Comapny, Commercial General Contractor in Mt. Airy, NC

Challenge

J.G. Coram Company, Inc. was feeling the effects of an aging network infrastructure that was built upon SOHO technologies and was worried that their current backup and recovery solution was not capable of providing viable recovery. Given the age and condition their existing networking, server, and client computers, they knew they had to do something fast, and desired a secure and reliable infrastructure that supported user-friendly remote access for, both, Project Managers and Field Superintendents.

Solution

After discussing their expressed pain-points and working with them to identify their business goals for the next five years, our proposed solution would require a complete upfit of the company's small network.  We often discover that some small businesses have a lot of difficulty moving away from consumer-class hardware and services because the initial cost of goods acquired is proportionally higher but that wasn't the case here. Upon review of our 3 year plan, and presentation of, both, the expected total cost of ownership and return on investment, J.G. Coram dived right in.

We replaced the existing "white-box" server, running Windows Small Business Server 2003 with an industry-proven Dell PowerEdge T420 and Microsoft's Windows Small Business Server 2011 Standard to provide rock-solid performance and reliability. To lower maintenance costs, as well as reduce users need for technical support services, we configured user-based provisioning of network-available resources, including files, printers, and remote workstations. We also sured up a first-class small business network by delivering a high-performance GbE LAN with optimized Wireless-N WLAN using Dell networking products, secured by SonicWALL NSA with Comprehensive Gateway Security Suite and Comprehensive Anti Spam Service.
