Computer networks in Pilot Mountain, NC

Challenge

A Plus Carports  had outgrown their current facilities and were expanding their business by relocating its operations from Boonville, NC to a new, much larger, facilities in Pilot Mountain, NC. The expansion would allow the company to streamline its processes by uniting its business office with its manufacturing division, but there was a problem. Due to a poor quality local area network and an inadequate and unreliable phone system, the operations at the existing business office location was severely impaired by loss of network connectivity and dropped or missed calls. A Plus asked us to help them ensure that these problems didn't follow them into their new facility.

Solution

Before learning of the planned purchase of the Pilot Mountain facilities, we had been actively working with A Plus to resolve their networking issues and phone-system-related problems at the Boonville location and had already delivered a formal proposal for delivering a turn-key network solution, which included installing all new cabling throughout the building and replacing the consumer-class carrier provided equipment with SME-class networking equipment from Dell and HP. Being the only significant change to the requirements was installation was to occur within another structure, we were easily able to use the recently submitted plan as our starting point. We divided up the work into two phases; phase one installing the network and phase two focused on IP Telephony.

Phase one was completed within just three days. During which time new Cat5e cabling was pulled to every office and work area within the facility, to support computer workstations, office equipment, and VoIP desksets. The networking was headed-in using the latest generation Dell SonicWALL TZ 400, armed with SSL-DPI and the full Comprehensive Gateway Security Suite. An HP Aruba series 2530-48G-POE+ was used to provide distribution and access, as well as to power a pair of Ubiquiti Unifi AP access points and the soon to arrive VoIP desksets. Everything was neatly installed within a full-height 2-post rack and protected from electrical-related events using an APC Smart-UPS 450RM.

We teamed up with Mt. Airy's best communications provider, Total Communications Systems and Solutions, to carry out Phase two. TCSS was responsible for installing the cabling and equipment rack, completed in phase one, as well as providing the carrier service and a reliable business-class VoIP phone system. We served as project manager, working on behalf of A Plus, to ensure our customer was completely satisfied with their new carrier service and VoIP system.

The results were a fast, reliable, and secure local area network with wireless coverage throughout the offices and a first-class business phone system.
